Caught between spring and fall fashion weeks, the summer months offer few opportunities to revel in fashion in the abstract. But this season, The New York Observer and Cushman and Wakefield host "Location," a free six-day extravaganza running now through June 11 that brings together, the fun, the art, and the frenzy true fashionistas live for.Named after the Observer's new real estate section, "Location" features an exhibition of fashion sculptures conceived by designers Benjamin Cho, Susan Cianciolo, Libertine, Elise Overland, Ruffian, and Victoria Bartlett. Creative Director Tony Arcabascio (known for his work with ALIFE) says the six contributors "represent the entire spectrum of New York talent," adding, "if for some crazy reason you don't recognize a name, you will soon."
Housed in a spacious SoHo storefront, the six core creations create a colorful and unexpected backdrop for the mélange of nighttime events taking place each evening by The Accompanied Literary Society as well as a changing list of hosts. There are plenty of events on the roster not to be missed, in particular a Fairytale Night, a screening of Susan Cianciolo's 1960s Butterfly Girl starring Frankie Rayder, and a benefit auction featuring artwork from the Creative Growth Art Center. This time, the old adage is truer than ever: Location, Location, Location.
