Liya wears a Stella McCartney dress, lemlem shoes, and a lemlem scarf.
What inspired you to start your foundation and your line, lemlem?
"lemlem kind of started because I'm from Ethiopia and hand hand-weaving has always been a part of traditional clothing there — that's how we wore our traditional clothing and we have all these weavers who are amazing, but the art of weaving is dying, and there's not enough of a market for the clothes. Everybody's wearing jeans — all this machine-made stuff — and I thought it would be kind of cool if I could give this industry an opportunity and bring back hand-woven stuff and the specialty of it and the uniqueness and I don't know. It's just so precious to me wearing something that was hand-made, and it's also a sustainable way of giving aid. It's giving people jobs versus just giving money."
