Most romantic thing you've ever done for someone:
"I tend to look at romance less as a WOW moment/contest and more as a constant stream of attention, thoughtfulness, and affection, but to answer the question I'd say making a lovely lady a porcini risotto and then following it up with a surprise drive to the beach to make out on a blanket was pretty good."
Biggest turn off/ turn-on:
"On: Good jokes, a big butt, flavorful shoes, freewheelin' intellect.
Off: 2 Cool 4 School, bootcut jeans, business casual."
Best date spot in NYC:
"I always tell dudes who ask me that it is best to avoid taking a date to any new/hot spot for your first night out. It makes it look like you get your restaurant recommendations from a daily email or something. UrbanDaddy spots are not slick or suave. Stick with a classic place with nice lighting, excellent service, and satisfying-but-not-too heavy food. Order something rich, something acidic, and something that showcases the deliciousness of nature. Marlow is always a winner. Always."
Ideal date outfit:
"For dudes: the most expensive, well-cut blazer you can afford (navy blue, never black, showing a 1/2 inch of shirt cuff if you are smooth) and handsome shoes (brogues for the winter, white bucks for the summer). Those are the only things a girl really notices anyways. Tucked in shirt, duh! No hat, no pocket square. She wants to been seen with a dude, not a Barneys window display.
For Gals: whatever, just look cute. Nothing too frumpy, nothing too slutty. Show a little, suggest even more."
Thing you'd always avoid discussing on a first date:
"What you actually want to do with your life, in earnest. Try to put the 'real talk' at a 6 instead of 11. Instead just talk about what interests you and what you are passionate about."
Favorite funny pick up line:
"Telling a woman she is wearing great shoes, when you ACTUALLY mean it, never fails. If you are really smooth you compliment something she is wearing. This implies that you have respect for a woman's style/viewpoint. Complimenting something that she was born with, like her eyes or hair or butt or whatever, is amateur-hour pick up style. This is real advice, dudes."
