Women’s wallets tend to be abominably huge. At one time or another, most of us have bought one of those trifold, checkbook-holding contraptions, excited about all the card slots and the pocket that holds cash flat, only to realize it takes up most of our purses and we don’t need all those accoutrements anyway. Some people sign up for every loyalty card and store credit card thrown at them, but most of us use a handful of cards and a little bundle of cash; there’s no need to waste space and energy on these huge wads of fabric, leather, and plastic.
Small and unassuming wallets have existed for a long time, with some advancements in materials and design, but are almost universally targeted at men. It’s time to take them for our own, these little card holders that slip easily into a box clutch, pocket, even a bra. After all, a little gamine style never hurt anyone. Minimalist wallets are like the black ballet flat of accessories — the beauty of them is that they’re practically meant not to be noticed. Here are a handful of wallets worth stealing that won’t weigh you down.
