Soundtracked with a mélange of Gil Scott-Heron, The Last Poets, and Betty Davis, the vibe during Karen Walker's fall '14 show was of total empowerment served up with a side of funk. Consider the cool-chick hallmarks that made an appearance: roomy pants you can move in, golden loafers you can walk in, crossbody bags to take along, and a great cat eye...just because. It would seem the Karen Walker girl has streamlined her closet a bit this season, and even leaned toward the dark side.

Instead of florals (though there was a great, nubby gray blossom pattern we loved), the print of this season is of raised hands. Splashed over big maxi-dresses, cast in brass, adorning a belt, or emblazoning a snuggly turtleneck in glittering sequins, the hand motif was slapped all over the collection. Literally — high fives all around.

Of course, it's impossible to talk about Karen Walker without mentioning those sunglasses. As stellar as ever, this season's shapes are larger and slightly more bulbous than frames past (like if you took her hexagonal shades and puffed them up with a bicycle pump). The tints (think tangerine and dusty rose) brought even more '70s fly. And, with clutches carrying slightly depressing, though totally spot-on, axioms like "Liberal, Miserable, and Cynical," and "Young, Willing, and Eager," Walker's got us pegged.
