Just Opened: Suite Orchard
A new shop on the Lower East Side gets into the g
The Lower East Side has always been a hotspot for the intersecting realms of fashion and music, but Suite Orchard owners Sonia and Cindy Huang are injecting the musical vibe of fashion with a slightly different beat.
Through their new store on Orchard Street and new collection Soni & Cindy, debuting this spring, the girls are channeling a fresh, offbeat girl-meets-rock style that is uniquely their own. "It's very streamlined," Sonia says of the store. "It's like a modern closet."
With dark wood fixtures contrasted by crisp white floor-to-ceiling drapes, the shop is sleek and uncluttered. The gray-and-white striped wallpaper, with the occasional pink stripe thrown in, adds a playful but slightly futuristic tone to the atmosphere. The collections reveal an assortment of personal favorites and exclusive lines, coquettish dresses and boxy jackets all displayed in an array of blacks, whites, grays, and pinks. Well-stocked in accessories, too, the proprietors are big fans of Bliss Lau's slouchy leather bags and Jennifer Ouellette's satin headbands. From the filmy chiffon halter dresses by Jovovich Hawk to the white draped tops by Rozae Nichols, the pieces here are perfect for a rooftop garden party or an impromptu summer fête.

As for the partners' own line, Sonia says they're striving for "girly, with a little bit of an edge," and their fashion background (between them they've spent some serious time with Diane Von Furstenberg, Satine, Stella McCartney, and Chloé) has undoubtedly influenced the contemporary Alice-in-Wonderland vibe they have going for fall. With their look-books designed to resemble CD covers, their line is ever musically inspired, with the spring collection The Pink Album, paying homage to Weezer's much-loved and zealously played, The Blue Album. Rock on.
