A Sweet-Smelling Salt Spray That Won’t Leave Your Hair Dry & Crunchy

Certain beauty products — think NARS blush in Orgasm, Clinique's Black Honey lipstick — are so good, they're practically famous. And, while we do love so many of those well-known, well-loved products with a loyal following, we've been wondering why others have been quietly flying under the radar. With that in mind, meet our beauty series, Cult Classics, in which we'll introduce you to the products you really, truly should know about (and try, like, right now). They're not brand new, but trust us: They've got staying power.
We try all year to get our hair looking as beachy and lazy-girl perfect as we can, but summer is when we really kick our efforts into high gear — and start reaching for our salt sprays. Finding one that doesn't leave your hair so crunchy and dry your fingers get stuck in it? Not easy. So, when I was tossed a bottle of John Masters Organics Sea Mist, I was skeptical. One use later, I was a full-blown sea-salt convert.

The beauty behind the Sea Mist is its simplicity. It's made with water, organic sea salt, and organic lavender. That's it — no crazy added lubricants or artificial perfumes. It actually boasts a USDA-certified-organic label, and it's cruelty- and gluten-free. Talk about a friendly product.
But, let's get down to brass tacks: What does it do to your hair? The organic sea salt adds lots of texture that isn't sticky, which is something most sprays tend to do. The true winner here, though, is the lavender, and it isn't just because it helps this mist smell heavenly. Lavender also aids in regulating the condition of your scalp. So, not only does this spritz help you achieve seaside waves, but it also helps keep your head healthy. And, as we all know, a healthy scalp equals healthy hair.
I like to use John Master's Sea Mist about halfway through my hair regimen — after I've added my leave-in products and my locks are 50% dry. I spritz it in section by section, mussing my strands with my fingers as I go. That's it — I let it air-dry the rest of the way. The result? Hair that looks like I just came in from an awesome beachside BBQ, without the grungy texture — or the hangover. Hair care that's lazy-girl-approved and goof-proof for you? That's an instant classic.
