Jay-Z, Tune-Yards, James Blake, And Other Rad Shows To Catch This Week

3-shows-1

Jay-Z, February 6, Carnegie Hall, Starting at $250
Considering the price of Jay-Z’s benefit show tonight, you may have one more problem to add to your 99. However, if you can afford a ticket ($500 and up are still available) your generosity to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation will be rewarded with a chance to see Hova in the flesh at the one and only Carnegie Hall. The more we think on it, the better a deal this sounds.

Monday, February 6, 9:30 pm, at Carnegie Hall, 881 7th Avenue, New York (between 56th and 57th streets); 212-247-7800.

tUnE-yArDs, February 9, The Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Starting at $35
American Songbook is hosting 16 nights of modern artists celebrating “the golden age of musical standards” at the posh Allen Room at Lincoln Center. One such interpreter is Merrill Garbus, more commonly known as the creative force behind polymorphous indie act tUnE-yArDs. No matter what source material Garbus plans to draw from, tUnE-yArDs is a genre all their own. Ticket information can be found at CenterCharge at 212-721-6500 (daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.).

Thursday, February 9, 8:30 p.m., The Allen Room at Lincoln Center, 194 Broadway (at 66th Street); 212-875-5000.

James Blake (DJ Set), The Chain, Airhead, February 12, (le) Poisson Rouge, $20
As much as we like James Blake’s sensitive crooner side, there’s a lot to be said for his ability to make bass tracks that get the dance floor moving (see: “CMYK” and “Love What Happened Here”). His DJ set at (le) Poisson Rouge could go either way, but we’re hoping it leans toward the latter.

Sunday, February 12, 9 p.m., (le) Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker Street (Between Thompson and Sullivan streets); 212-505-3474.

Up for more? Here are some bonus shows:

Dum Dum Girls, Widowspeak, and Punks on Mars play the Music Hall of Williamsburg. February 7.
Jeff The Brotherhood play Death By Audio. February 8.
