On The Road With Punk's Latest Crush

The music industry is so saturated that it's easy to forget the song you heard last night or the artist you saw in concert over the summer. Well, not if the artist is Isabel "Izzy" Almeida of Hunters and if that song is "Seizure." In fact, with her cotton-candy pink hair, crazy-cool style, punk-rock 'tude, Almeida is pretty darn unforgettable.
So, when we heard she was on tour with guitarist (and beau) Derek Watson, bassist Thomas Martin, and drummer Gregg Giuffre, we gleefully invited ourselves along. A quick chat between sets as the 28-year-old Brooklyn-based artist toured the East Coast with her mates revealed just how much noise she could make (literally and figuratively) and how she jams in style (hint: a pair of way-cool Carrera by Jimmy Choo sunnies). Read ahead, and rock on.

"This August, we toured with Hunx and His Punx, which was really great. We toured up and down the East Coast and into Canada and, in September, we just played a couple festivals. The only downside was that it was only two weeks, so it was over really fast."

"The private jet wasn't available so we used our van. We usually don't bring anyone on tour with us because there is no space in our van, so it's just me, Derek, Tommy, and Gregg — my bros!"

"This one night, we were all really tired and delirious from a nine-hour drive, and we were up the night before hanging at a friend's house. There was nothing else open except for a TGI Fridays. We decided that in order to get the full experience, we needed the staff to sing 'Happy Birthday' to someone. So, when Gregg went to the bathroom, we told them that it was his birthday. When he got back, all of the staff came around our table clapping and singing with a bootleg version of 'Happy Birthday.' The whole restaurant joined in and watched him get his free ice cream. That wasn't the best way to fly under the radar there, but it was surreal for sure!"

"On tour, I just couldn't live without Dr Martens, leggings, a black skirt, jean shorts, and random T-shirts. This is me stocking up for the next leg."

"I love playing shows in Chicago; the crowd is so great. We got lucky and spent a week there in April making our record. We got to go back to a bunch of thrift stores, record stores (like this one), and weird toy shops when we went back in August."

"Gotta say, my best tour memory ever is from when we were on the road with Bleached. We all got really wild after a show in Atlanta. We all were hanging out listing to music in the parking lot and everyone got really excited and jumped up and raged on the roof of our van. By the end of the night, their drummer had fractured his foot from launching off the top, and we had a huge dent in our roof! I remember every time it rains — a huge puddle collects on the roof!"

"Touring, shows, promotional appearances — none of that has changed the band at all. We've toured together so much; we've all learned how to deal with each other's crap. At this point, I love it!"

"Then again, there was that time I got a minor concussion from hitting my head on the ground too hard. That kind of sucked."

"Oh, did I happen to mention that I'm horrible with sunglasses on tour? I lose them all the time, sit on them — you name it. These babies, though, are so cute! Gonna try to be more careful this time."

"I'm really excited for the next tour in November. We're hitting the West Coast for the first time, and we have our new record out. It's gonna be fun to see all those new places!"
