WHAT: Winter’s Bone
WHY: While Jennifer Lawrence may have been a fabulous vision in red at the Oscars, she is anything but glamorous in her star-making role as Ree, an Ozark teen who embarks on a journey to find her drug-peddling father and save her family's home, encountering some rather shady, Charlie Sheen-esque characters on the way. We know it's been around for a while, but director Debra Granik's bleak portrayal of rural mountain life will enthrall you even after the Xanax you need to pop kicks in.
