Blue is having a moment — it’s the unofficial color of spring 2014 (sorry Radiant Orchid) and has been spotted everywhere from nail-polish collections to the models’ hair on the runway at NYFW. But, such a fun shade deserves the spotlight — on your lips. It's true the shade can easily look costume-ish — after all, no one wants to look like they've been caught making out with a Smurf.

However, Rihanna has been spotted wearing shades of blue on the red carpet in such a sophisticated manner that reminds us all we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the color. Plus, there are hidden benefits to wearing blue lipstick: It makes your teeth appear whiter and can help tone down yellow in the skin to counteract sallowness, giving you an overall more youthful appearance.
