How To Finally Start Planning Your Meals In Advance

Healthy eating can seem impossible if you’re busy and/or broke, but it can be done. It just takes a little planning. Sean Peters, founder of the website MyBodyMyKitchen.com, spoke with Shape and shared a few meal-planning tricks.

First, he suggests to start small. Begin with a few days' worth of meals at a time; then, slowly build up to make a whole week of meals in a single session. “If you try to do a week all at once in the beginning, you will get discouraged, and it will be messy,” Peters told Shape.

Also, just because you make a giant batch of something doesn't mean you have to eat it every single day, Peters says. After you cook a new recipe, set aside one or two portions to freeze so you can eat them later — and swap in something different during the week. Vegetable soup is delicious, but nobody wants to eat it for four nights straight.

Finally, Peters recommends you enlist a buddy. The cooking process definitely goes faster with a second set of hands — and it’s also more fun. With a second chef in the kitchen, you can brainstorm ways to create a healthier version of your favorite dish while you cook.
