How To Organize Your Scarves This Winter

Clos-ette’s Melanie Charlton practically invented the idea of a custom closet, so it’s only natural that she’s always peeking in everyone else’s. Follow along every week as Clos-ette taps some of our favorite ladies (and gents!) to find out their favorite boutiques to cull, what’s at the top of their wish lists, and, of course, how they keep their own wardrobes in tact.
Scarves provide a splash of color to our outfits, and they're a must-have for the cold weather. But, keeping them organized — especially when you have dozens of them — is no easy feat.

One of our favorite strategies? Keep your silk scarves on full display by draping them over a space-saving, shape-saving, and easily accessible specialty bar like our Clos-ette by Nanz hardware. Click through for three more ways to keep your closet in order this season!

Carefully folding silk scarves with acid-free tissue paper is a-ok.
If a rack is impossible at your place, fold scarves wrapped around acid-free tissue and neatly store in a basket or drawer.

Even more space-saving: edit, edit, edit!
And then combine with belts on easy-to-see-and-reach hooks.
Scarves — especially used-often warm weather varieties — can be hung along with favorite belts on hooks. For your thicker knit winter scarves, try loosely knotting them on a rod or draping them on pegs attached your wall for a seasonal changeup. Your favorite neck warmers can also store easily when rolled up and tucked in a crate in your entrance hall or closet. This creates a simple, colorful visual for when you’re trying to match on the dash out the door – a must for those cold mornings when you snag an extra minute under your comforter!

Bonus for those of you who live with a suited guy or your style icon is Annie Hall: how to store ties. Always use a tie rack. Avoid folding them unless it’s once at the neck and placed in a special drawer. This color-coded tie collection perfectly hung makes our hearts sing. Smart, space-saving, specialty hanging bars aren’t just for the ladies.
