How To Pull Off Purple Eyeshadow Without Looking Ridiculous

Now that it's April, we can consider ourselves fully immersed in pastel season. Right now, people are into having fun with their makeup again — there have been lots of great eye moments in editorials and on the runways. Personally, purple is a favorite. It looks great on all eye colors, and it's extremely versatile on most skin tones.  The thing about pulling off bright or bolder colors on the eyes is to keep them modern — it's much cooler to keep it one color and focus on your technique than to do gradations of color for a smoky eye. With this look specifically, I wanted a hazy, soft-focused oval shape to play up the airy, gentle atmosphere of springtime. It kind of bounces off our model Chaun's eyes. I just grabbed a very fluffy, round-tipped eye brush, and dipped it into a Dior shadow called It Purple, then followed the shape of her natural eye socket. You should start this way, and then work on elongating your shape. You can give yourself a cat-eye effect by pointing out the edges, or keep it round for a circular effect. Just make sure to add color on the bottom lashes to give your eyes a complete wash of pastel. Then, add your favorite mascara: the more, the better. Plan on keeping the rest of the face as clean as possible in order to let your eyes stand out. It's fun to maintain a soft and natural look with that element of surprise.
