Helmut Lang Shredded 6,000 Of His Archive Clothing For Art

Helmut Lang—the man, and not the brand—seems to be shredding the last vestiges of his connection to fashion... literally. After leaving the label in 2005, Lang returned to his artist roots, creating installations and sculptures from New York and Long Island, while donating some of his archive pieces to museums and collectors. Now, he's shredding the remaining 6,000 garments into bits of fabric, fur, feathers, leather, plastic, hair, and metal to create stalactite-like sculptures that'll go on display at Fireplace Project in East Hampton, N.Y..
