Gucci Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary With Some New Purses (How Appropriate!)

When it comes to the oldest fashion brands around, Gucci might still be at teenarger. But as the house aims to hit 90 next year, they've unveiled a new ad campaign to take advantage of their near-century's worth of good design. They use two black-and-white images of the Gucci factory at Via elle Caldale, Florentine taken in the '50s for the campaign, which will be unveiled in international newspapers starting this weekend. Additionally, the team is tapping back into old-school Gucci motifs such as the Diamante pattern, the horsebit, and the red and green ribbon as well as relaunching bags with a modern twist (the Jackie bag with metal hardware, and the Bamboo with a carved, wooden handle), but new additions like the first Gucci museum in the Palazzo della Mercanzia in Pizza della Signoria, and their 24-hour music channel for the iPod make sure the brand is positioned for some greater things in the future. So, happy birthday, Gucci! But more importantly...will there be giftbags at your party? (WWD)
