This Is Our Jam: Foxygen, “No Destruction”

foxygen
Los Angeles-based duo Foxygen exists at the unlikely crossroads of the '60s and '90s. Lead singer Sam France has a familiar delivery that feels like Bob Dylan if you squint or John Cale if you don't, while guitarist Jonathan Rad plays with the no-shits-given slacker ethos of Pavement and Silver Jews.
For the band's latest single "No Destruction," the lyrics mix abstract imagery with ironic social commentary: "There's no need to be an asshole / You're not in Brooklyn anymore," being the standout jab. For indie-rock fans who want a taste of the old days (or the really old days), Foxygen might be seen as an unlikely savior. And with an album titled We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic, maybe it is.
