Fashionable or Forgettable? Oscar Style Hits, Misses, and Reese!

oscars-best-02-23-09
We love the Oscars as much as the next guy or gal, but when we tune in, it's just as much for the borrowed gowns as it is for those little gold statues. Who will sink and who will swim in this shark tank of jaw-dropping designer duds? As we watched in anticipation last night, lounging in our comfiest PJs, we couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of being, well, underwhelmed. We sat and cursed at our TV over the fact that while that the ladies looked mostly lovely in Oscar and Giorgio and Carolina and the like, no one ever seems to go out on a limb anymore (who doesn't long for the one-armed-I-designed-it-myself days of Kim Basinger?). Well, it seems there was a lot of one-one-shouldered action (Kate, Freida, Heidi), and so much strapless (Penelope, Natalie, Sarah Jessica, Amy, etc.), here is our list of hits and question marks. You tell us: Who did Oscar proud? As far as we could see, the only gal who got our hearts to really go pitter-pat was the predictably safe Reese Witherspoon who delighted us by donning a jewel-toned, flow-y piece from the Mulleavy sisters. Kudos, Reese for dressing outside of the box.
