How did you score your gig?
"I started out as the fashion and beauty editor at Hollywood Life magazine, back when it was a beautiful glossy. I hit the ground running hard — I really had to fake it until I made it! I will never forget my first shoot was with The Desperate Housewives back when they were breakout stars, and Eva Longoria said to me, 'Honey, aren't you meant to steam this dress that way?' It was totally classic. Then, I was the West Coast fashion assistant at Vogue, aiding on all of the celebrity shoots in and outside of L.A. I was stolen away by OK! Magazine, of all places, ha! They offered me autonomy and I styled all of their celebrity shoots. Then, I began styling on my own, and the idea sparked to open my own online business, CHICandyoushallfind.com. R29's editor-in-chief, Christene, actually green-lit a story on the site, and we became acquainted. When my business was barely breaking even — I'm 100% right-brained, budgets are like hieroglyphics — and the position opened up, I emailed her immediately. After rigorous interviews, writing tests, and my references getting drilled, the rest has been history for a year almost today!"
What's the best part of being R29's L.A. editor?
"I feel so blessed to have found a company that suits my personality to a T: It's quirky, irreverent, ever-curious, and is always aiming higher than the stars. Plus, I've never had a boss whom I've respected more — Christene's magnetizing in style, creativity, and drive. That's so important in any job, but I hit the jackpot."
