It's a fact: Athena Calderone is a curator of all things gorgeous. Her breathtaking home decor, delicious recipes, and eye for style inspired her to create EyeSwoon, a hub for home and food inspiration. Now, It Girl Calderone will be taking us to New York's need-to-know spots and introducing us to the coolest people around.
Peacocks, floral wrist corsages, Jenni Kayne floral pre-fall napkins, terracotta water pitchers, stunning linens and tabletop pieces, baskets and vintage glassware courtesy of One Kings Lane, an insanely delicious and thoughtful meal created with love by Valleybrink Road…holy swoon! I don’t think I could have dreamt up such a feast for the eyes and the bellies!
The setting for the garden party I co-hosted last week with Jenni Kayne for Rip + Tan still has me swooning. And, beyond my enjoyment of all things visual and yummy, I encountered the loveliest group of women chatting about all things Californian. I was schooled in everything on where to shop, eat, vacation, stay, and visit along the entire coastline of California by the likes of Jessica de Ruiter, Lawren Howell, Liseanne Frankfurt, Nicole Simone, Kristen Caissie, Barrett Prendergast, and, of course Shiva Rose, who opened up her tranquil yard complete with peacocks, chicken, and teepees! It was the perfect California party setting.
This is what EyeSwoon is all about: creating new ideas, inspiration, friendships, and making new discoveries. I have said it before, but food is the greatest common denominator — it creates togetherness, the sharing of a common ground that breaks down the barriers we often put up. We can feel awkward in new surroundings (at least I do), but through EyeSwoon, I was sitting among a new group of women and feeling completely uplifted.
Jenni greeted me with an insane amount of warmth and curated a stunning tablescape with florals by Moon Canyon, complete with individual wrist corsages that we tied onto one another — what a brilliant idea! I was swooned by all of the ceramics and tabletop pieces — Variopinte enamel plates from Jenni’s Montecito store, and Portuguese terracotta pitchers, serving bowls, and platters. One Kings Lane was gracious enough to share gorgeous vintage Villeroy & Boch crystal glassware and natural woven baskets to hold the flowers. What an awe-inspiring afternoon spent in nature with all that a swooner could ask for: food, beauty, inspiration, and newfound friendships.
