This Is Our Jam: Ex Cops, “James”

ex-cops
Fronted by Brian Harding and Amalie Bruun, whose solo work we're also fans of, Ex Cops makes wistful indie pop that should please fans of Wild Nothing and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. When we first heard from New York-based group, it had just released the shimmery, shadowy White Women EP, and now the band is back readying its new album True Hallucinations.
New single, "James," may be its most realized track to date, with the big, bright guitars and twee vocals that beg to be hummed along to. Mixing wide-eyed nostalgia with a story of teenage love, Harding tells the story of a tumultuous young relationship that can't be touched by the outside world: "Summer lasts all day / We fell asleep in a hurricane," he sings. It's all so breezy and over so fast that you'll want to play it again to relive the romance.
