First Look: Levi's Made And Crafted Shop In Shop

The Levi's flagship in San Francisco is saying hello to 2012 with a makeover of sorts, thanks to the addition of the first-ever fully actualized Made and Crafted concept space.

Envisioned by Ben Phillips, the Global Brand Presentation Manager for Levi's XX, the new permanent shop-in-shop on the first floor of the company's Union Square store is a place that showcases the higher-end line, along with select third-party goods that share a similar design sensibility.

Filled with Levi's top-tier garments, such as short-run, hand-finished Italian leather jackets, cashmere-cotton blend knits, indigo-dyed button-downs with buffalo horn buttons, U.S.-made denim, beautiful leather totes, and more, this shop is the first of its kind "in the world," says Phillips, who gave us a first look around the space.

"On one side of the first floor, you have a section devoted to the evolution of the 501, starting in the 1800s," he says. "And on this side, it's all about the next chapter for Levi's."

The impressive space, filled with hand-crafted everything, courtesy of Phillips and local furniture-maker Sebastian Parker (he did the interiors at Bar Agricole), features custom furniture and lighting, rugs made out of hand-knotted strips of vintage Levi's scraps, plus cool curated goods and gifting items like Japanese stationery, high-quality graphite pencils and erasers, memo pads, locally crafted In Foire perfumes, wallets, scarves, and other accessories by Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons. Take a virtual tour of it all after the jump.

First Look: Unionmade Comes To Marin

If you haven't been to the revamped Marin Country Mart in Larkspur yet, you now have little reason not to hop on a ferry or catch a ride over the bridge to get there. As of this weekend, much beloved menswear shop Unionmade is open for business in the rapidly expanding shopping center, which already boasts boutiques by Erica Tanov and Malia Mills, as well as a farmers' market with pony rides for the kids, movie nights for the adults, artisanal bites by cult pastry shop Miette, scoops by Three Twins Ice Cream, and outposts of El Huarache Loco and Rustic Bakery on the way.

It is, however, in Larkspur, so we understand it you can't get there right this very moment, which is why we're bringing you this exclusive first-look of the North Bay boutique — Unionmade's third outpost — which cleverly connects to an adjoining barber shop and sicker-than-average post office. Peep the pics, shot by local photo star Andrew Paynter, hear about the new shop from owner Todd Barket, and get ready to book a road trip — stat!

60 Seconds With Nicola Formichetti

nicolaJust last week, Japanese retail giant, Uniqlo opened their global flagship store, right here at 5th Avenue! We got even luckier as we managed to rub shoulders with the brand’s fashion director, Nicola Formichetti, who somehow also finds time to be the creative director of Thierry Mugler, fashion director of Vogue Hommes Japan, and Lady Gaga’s stylist. The fashion Superman took a hot min to chat with us—dishing on defying his parents, fun with Gagaloo, and his thoughts on fashion bloggers (he thinks there should be even more )

Saks' Brand-New Chicago Shoe Salon Feeds Our Fetish

Saks Fifth Avenue has long known the way to our hearts, but in a demonstration of complete genius, they've taken things further by giving us even more of what we want–designer shoes. Saks has recently expanded its shoe floor (seriously, a floor) to 3,330-square-feet of designer shoes. The name, 10022-SHOE, comes from the zipcode of the New York flagship’s shoe salon. With every designer you love, and some you'll love very soon, the new salon promises to be Chicago's new shoe-go to for designer heels (and boots, and wedges, and flats) that mean business. One of the shoe-obsessed world's most-beloved designers, Brian Atwood, was there to help cut the ribbon at 10022-SHOE last week. We are thrilled that he and all of his brilliant shoe-designing cohorts are Chicago to stay.

C'est Sweet: Laduree's First U.S. Shop Opens In NYC

Oh la la, our inner Marie Antoinette is giddy at thought of Ladurée, the Parisian pastry and cake shop (whose claim to fame is the creation of the macaron) opening up their first-ever U.S. flagship right here in New York City. So, it seemed like the perfect coincidence that their spot of choice was 864 Madison Avenue, nestled alongside fashion headliners like Dior, Tom Ford, and Sonia Rykiel. Indeed, Ladurée and fashion have always seemed to go hand-in-hand—remember that decadent scene in Sofia Coppola Marie Antoinette where Kirsten Dunst is surrounded by oodles and oodles Ladurée pastries and shoes? A dreamy combination for sure! But the past few weeks, Ladurée has been through a bit of a macaron soap opera (thanks to our good ol' friend Hurricane Irene, their opening date kept getting pushed back). Finally, as if our taste buds weren’t tantalized enough, the magic of Ladurée was released to the public early, 9 a.m. this morning, and rest assured it was simply magnifique, going toe-to-toe with its nearby rival, Maison du Chocolat.
