Weekend Field Trip: Rodarte Rocks At The Cooper-Hewitt

The Carnegies must have been rolling in their graves as the fashion flock invaded their former Upper Upper East Side manse for a bash hosted by Vogue and Nordstrom celebrating Kate and Laura Mulleavy's "Quick-Take Rodarte" exhibition at the New York branch of the Smithsonian Institution. We clearly heart the stylish sisters—the cab ride up to 91st Street set us back about $20 bucks and 20 minutes. Obviously, everyone else does, too, because as we pulled out we saw about 50 of our fashion crushes smoking cigs on the terrace. Natalie Portman, Melissa George, and Kirsten Dunst all flaunted their Rodarte frocks, while Anna Wintour, Liya Kebede, and Heidi Mount also paid homage to the duo. The sisters weren't sporting ego though: Kate told us, "I am so so honored. It's just amazing," and Laura added, "I never dreamed this could be possible. It's just overwhelming. I mean...God, this is the Smithsonian. They house the Ruby Slippers!"

Like those Slippers, this exhibition is majorly swoon-worthy and offers a gimlet eye into the Mulleavys' inspirations and process at a time when the sisters are ruling 7th Avenue (last year they won the 2009 Womenswear Designer of the Year from the CFDA). It's worth the trek to see special pieces like an attention grabbing technicolor dress and jaw-dropping heels as well as a killer installation in the Billiard Room of the Mansion. Get your 'darte on soon, the exhibit runs only until March 14.

Cooper-Hewitt Museum
2 East 91st Street, (at Fifth Avenue); 212-849-8300

Hours: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
General admission: $15; senior citizens and students ages 12 and older, $10.
Cooper-Hewitt and Smithsonian members and children younger than age 12 are admitted free!

Jeremy Scott's After-Party Brings Back Fashion Week Crazy

By: Kristian Laliberte

If walls could talk, we find it difficult to imagine what the graffiti-ed concrete slabs of hot-spot Good Units could possibly say about last night. Bad Boy West Coast fashion designer Jeremy Scott played hostess with the mostess to a slew of conventionally challenged cross-dressers that left us contemplating if we were too conservatively dressed (and trust, that doesn't happen often!). With Kelly Cutrone managing the event (she of Kell On Earth fame), you know there were cameras everywhere and the boys and girls were more than happy to mug for the bright lights. We saw costumes that would make Gaga blanch— goth angel wings, Little Bo-Peep dresses, and crazy caftans. We stayed in the hopes that the rumor of Rihanna performing would be true, sadly it turned out to be Amanda Blank (no offense to Blank fans, but c'mon, it's Ri!). Exhausted by our clear lack of sartorial chutzpah, we grabbed a couple Jeremy Scott ribbed condoms and took our leave.

jeremy-scott-party-1.jpg

And remember, we told you about Good Units here first! Here's what to do when you go:

Your drink: The Belvedere Grapefruit Margarita! Salty and sour, it's weird in a really good way. And you know Belvie's our vodka of choice...

Your look: Double O-C. It's dark down there so you'll want to stand out.

Your plan: Go a bit early (11-ish) to the "library," which is on the ground level directly to the left of the bar. Snag a seat on the '80s couch before anyone else does and you're set!

Pat Field Resurrects Keith Haring With A Bash And A New Collection

keith-haring-pat-field-01.jpeg

If anyone could resurrect Keith Haring from the grave, it's Patricia Field. In fact, she did her best to keep his name very much in the spotlight last week with a balls-to-the-wall bash that would have put Andy Warhol to shame. It was Tunnel all over again&mdash familiar club kids with names that read like pops songs&mdash Kenny Kenny, Malik So Chic, Richie Rich, and Cherry Bomb. The world's stock of glitter and fake eyelashes announced the new Keith Haring by the House of Field Paradise Garage Collection at hot-spot Good Units, with items like silk scarf dresses that would make Ru Paul blush. But the over-the-top crowd (think exposed breasts, Darth Vader masks, and pancake makeup) has Haring smiling someplace.

Single In The City! What To Do And Where To Go For Valentine's Day

By: Kristian Laliberte

valentines-for-singles.jpg

We're not saying you're a bitch if you have a man-friend for Valentine's Day, but, we kind of hate you (okay, not really). Some of us here are single, and while V-Day makes some of us wanna curl up Bridget Jones' style, we've made it our mission this year to grab the holiday by the chocolate hearts and have some fun. So, if you're in the market to get your drink on (or just get yourself off) here's our guide on how to make Cupid wish he could have as much fun as you!

Eat.
We like calories as much as the next girl, but it sure can be lonesome eating alone. Luckily, there are some restaurants where you won't be surrounded by smooching couples.

SoHo House is hosting two tables of singles for Valentine's Day brunch--one gay and one straight. Dine family-style while a DJ pumps up some good tunes, sip unlimited cocktails, and get your vodka goggles on--hey, maybe you'll meet that special someone.
Soho House Restaurant, 29 9th Ave.
212-627-9800, sohohouseny.com
Sunday, February 14, 1:00 p.m.

Party.
Single! V-Day! Whether you're into butts or like your dudes southern, there's a party for every girl or guy.

Valentine's Day Singles Ball
It's the biggest in the city, with BBQ and $6 drink specials (think cocktails called Pink Crush).
Southern Hospitality
1460 Second Avenue
212-627-9800, southernhospitality.com
Saturday, February 13, 9 p.m.

Peter Jensen After Party.
Hosted by everyone's favorite Valentine, Julia Frakes, and featuring some sad love songs from The Cardigans, it may be a sweet downer, but that's always the best time to turn to your neighbor for a little feel-good affection.
B.East, 171 Broadway
If you're not invited, show up and look dreamy. They may just let you in...
Sunday, February 14, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.

Butt Valentine
Hosted by Mr. Marc Jacobs, Lorenzo Martone, and our fave vintage gay porn mag, Butt. If you're a homo, and you need some love, we best be seeing you there.
Rush
579 6th Ave.
$3 cover

Miss Lonelyhearts & BBlessing host a "Love In."
A poly-amorous free for all with some of the coolest people we know. If you like your men skinny and your girls in men's flats, this is your jam.
Gallery Bar
120 Orchard Street
RSVP: misslonelyhearts@me.com
February 14, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. (open bar 9 p.m.-10:20 p.m.)

Play.
Whether it's with yourself or with someone else, a one-night stand or a date with chocolate, boring is never cute.

Condoms: Opening Ceremony for Proper Attire, properattirecondoms.com
Vodka: Belvedere,$65 per Magnum, Astor Wine & Spirits.
Chocolate: Demel, $70, demel.at

Interview's 40-Year Anniversary Party: A Blast To The Past

By: Kristian Laliberte

We kinda felt like we were entering Michael Jackson's Bad video last night as we climbed down the service stairs into Good Units, the subterranean, former '30s YMCA space under the Hudson Hotel. No, we weren't getting into a gangster-rumble-dance-off...

We've been on the edge of our seats ever since we saw the much-hyped-about Alexander Wang and Linda Farrow collaboration on the spring 2010 runways. The famed sunglasses brand has lent their hand to everyone from Dries Van Noten to Jeremy Scott, and most recently designed super-hot specs to pair with Alex's athletic-inspired spring collection. To celebrate, M.I.A., Alexander Wang, and Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Opening Ceremony hosted an intimate dinner at the Los Angeles O.C. location sponsored by Belvedere vodka. Invited guests Erin Wasson, Spike Jonze, Chloë Sevigny, Claire Danes, and Farrow's Tracy Sedino were happy to join in on the good cheer. Click through for our party pics from the evening!
