Blogger And Buyer Caroline Knapp Cops To Snatching Jellies From Her Sister In The…

Believe it or not, it’s been 30 years — an entire generation — since GUESS’ original, three-zip Marilyn jean put their mark on fashion forever. To celebrate, the brand is going back to its roots with a new campaign featuring the star of its classic ads, Claudia Schiffer, and releasing a limited-edition line of updates on their iconic pieces. To join in the festivities, we snapped 30 of our favorite fashionable friends wearing the vintage-inspired 30th anniversary collection and asked them what GUESS means to them. Thirty women, 30 days, 30 sexy years of GUESS.
For more about the collection and GUESS’ 30th birthday, go to www.GUESS1981.com.
Name: Caroline Knapp
Ten-second bio: "I’m a Texas transplant living in New York City working as a fashion buyer by day and a personal-style blogger by night. Between work and blogging, I’m always immersed in fashion, but it never gets old!"
Favorite ‘80s memory: "My older sister and I are less than two years apart, so growing up I would always sneak into her closet and steal whatever I could get my hands on — jelly shoes, stirrup pants, hair bows (the bigger the better), and colorful socks (to layer, of course) — and hope she didn’t notice until we got to school and it was too late to do anything about it."

Favorite GUESS memory: "Very few brands are as iconic and representative of a decade as GUESS is to the ‘80s. My favorite denim was a pair of tapered-ankle, acid-washed GUESS jeans. Back then, you didn’t have a different wash, cut, and style for every day of the week, so those jeans made plenty of appearances in the family photo album. I also can’t forget the triangle GUESS logo T-shirt. I bet there was is at least one kid in every class picture sporting the GUESS logo tee!"
Favorite returning '80s fashion trend: "I’m a huge fan of the denim jacket — it’s such a versatile and timeless piece. My favorite way to style it is by throwing it over a floral summer dress during the cooler spring months. It’s the best way to play down a dressier piece."

Goodness gracious! Ed Young is not just a man of the cloth, he's a man with a lot of respect for clothing. Would you read this pastor's style blog, um, religiously? (Styleite)
These bamboo Gucci frames are actually biodegradable. Don't worry, we're sure it probably takes a few hundred years, at least, to complete the process — leaving you with plenty of quality wearing time. (Ecouterre)

Boo Announces New Based-In-S.F. Book, We Collapse From Cuteness
If there's one thing you know we love...it's the World's Cutest Dog (and Bay Area native) Boo! Need proof? Check out our roundup of Boo's greatest looks and tips on how your own pooch can copy them. Sidenote: Boo Facebooked this story to his 4.4 million fans, which pretty much made our lives. #notsohumblebrag
And the mega-adorbs pup has now made our week by announcing his second book with S.F.-based publisher Chronicle Books! What's more: The heart-warming tome, dubbed Boo: Little Dog In The Big City, takes place in both our and Boo's backyard, of good ol' San Francisco!
Chronicle leaked a few images from the soon-to-come book (check them out after the jump) and — brace yourself — there are pics of the pup driving a mini Benz with Victorian homes behind him, rolling around in Alamo Square park (giving the Painted Ladies a run for their money), riding a cable car, trotting along the beach in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, and shopping our finest boutique. Um, have you passed out from cute overload yet?
Personally, we are already scanning the net for any mentions of a Boo book signing hitting the Bay in the near future. We suppose in the meantime we could always buy one of these limited-edition Boo stuffed animals and recreate the touristy, S.F.-centric snaps ourselves. Could make for a good Instagram series.

Has Street Style Jumped The Shark?
Let's be honest — for people who really love fashion, "dressing for ourselves" is rarely the only M.O. We put together outfits, deck ourselves in the season's best accessories, and try out new trends because it's fun to share our enthusiasm for fashion with those that appreciate it.
Street style has taken that core idea — swapping, sharing, and engaging in conversation about that joy of dressing with other people — and made it something we can all be a part of, while eating breakfast in our pajamas. Starting with Bill Cunningham and ending with up-and-coming bloggers with their own point-and-shoot cameras, street style is an incredibly viral, incredibly instant, incredibly addictive facet of fashion that's changed lots of the ways in which fashion gets made and consumed.
But, with everyone getting in on the street-style game, is it special anymore? Is it real anymore? We take a look at the brief history of street style and investigate whether the medium is getting stale or if it still has legs.
@NotTildaSwinton Is Winning Twitter Right Now
Would the gorgeous, ageless, ineffable creature we call Tilda Swinton ever tweet? Fools! As instantly followable as its account would be, The Swinton does not concern herself with such lowly, mundane pursuits. Luckily, a reasonable, ridiculous approximation, @NotTildaSwinton, has been communicating the incommunicable essence of the actress/woodland demigod for two rapturous days now.
Since then, we've learned so much. What does NotTilda/Tilda have for breakfast? "Sunlight. Boring, I know, but such an old standby deserves respect." What is NotTilda/Tilda's favorite thing to wear? "A robe of live squirrels is finer than pearls." How does NotTilda/Tilda kick back after a long day of cycling through various "animal" forms? "I sit on my throne of bone and await the evening's offering. My bat servant, Theremiah, returns to roost." Wait. Are we sure this isn't the real Tilda? (@NotTildaSwinton)

This Is Our Jam: How To Dress Well, "Ocean Floor For Everything"

Over the past few years, Tom Krell, under his How to Dress Well moniker, has taken an obsession with ‘90s R&B and morphed it into his own decayed pop universe. “Ocean Floor For Everything,” the first single from his upcoming new record, Total Loss, sees How to Dress Well streamlining his songwriting and taking a step closer to the music that inspired the project in the first place. Using synths that sound uncannily similar to the MIDI tones of Mario 64’s water worlds, How to Dress Well creates his own spectral aquatic landscape where shadowy vocals get lost in the tides. It’s romantic in a removed, lovelorn sort of way, and makes us think of what a mer-couple might put on the radio in their most intimate of moments, or a Boys II Men slow jam beamed to the bottom of the sea.

What An Odd Proposal: Uggs Made Just For Your Wedding Day
When it comes to wedding shoes, the sky is the limit — go classic in white peep-toe slingback, create a major contrast in a bold, sapphire-blue pump, or make a distinct statement with the flash of a Louboutin's red sole.
But, a sheepskin boot? Yeah, that's not really something you'll see on our Pinterest wedding board wish list.
Tapping into the bridal market, Ugg has created a trifecta of fluffy footwear for the bride who, well, loves Uggs as much as she does her partner, we presume. The collection includes a shiny silver boot with a oversized rhinestone button closure, a plush pair of flip flops, and a sequin-covered white boot (ya' know, for the classicist).
Admittedly, we can kind of get on board with the concept of sandals to provide a little comfort in the midst of all the day-of-wedding preparations. But, even our most realistic side (the one that has a love/hate relationship with beautiful shoes that unfortunately pinch our feet) can't really justify Ugg boots for a trip down the aisle. May we suggest something equally comfy and much less obtrusive? Say, flats or sneakers, or even bare feet... (Daily Mail UK)
Eau De Ford Focus: Auto Company Bottles That New-Car Scent
Nothing beats that new-car smell, eh? And we should know, we spend loads of time sitting behind the steering wheel, screaming for mercy, waiting for the 405 to let up.
But after a few weeks, sadly that scent fades and is replaced by the stench of empty-tupperware containers and spare running sneakers. Well, Ford Spain has answered our prayers by bottling the fleeting odor. Titled Olor a Nuevo ("smells new"), we imagine the fragrance features a leathery base, infused with top notes of Little Trees air fresheners, ha!
While we won't be swapping our go-to Chanel N°5 with the vehicle-inspired perfume, we're pretty positive that Angelenos will appreciate the car-centric cologne. Just as long as they don't start plotting an auto-fume fragrance, we're fans of any automobile aroma. (Allure)

Yikes! The Zuck-Inspired 'Executive Hoodie' Takes Casual To The Next Level
Just when we thought we couldn’t cope with any more Mark Zuckerberg-related tidbits, this came along and stirred up our morning in a major way. Sure, we wouldn’t call the Facebook founder and CEO a Silicon Valley style icon. In fact, we’re pretty shocked he even swapped out his trademark zip-up for a suit on his wedding day. But, apparently, one S.F.-based brand begs to differ, and is actually turning to Zuck and his casual-fashion chops for inspiration. The peeps over at Betabrand are attempting to capitalize on the tech mogul’s threads (and, no doubt, recent headlines) and have designed a luxe hoodie of sorts. Dubbed the “executive hoodie” this pin-striped iteration ups the ante by boasting fine fabrics and two front pockets for an extra-fancy effect.
Perfect for peeps who want to take business casual to the next level? Well, for $148 it’s not exactly for the penny pincher. But, wait, what about all the female techies also after the suit-loungewear hybrid? Um, they can take comfort in the fact that there’s a women's version coming soon. Phew. Or ewww? How do you feel about this Facebook-inspired fashion item? Inquiring minds would like to know. (CNET)

Photog Corey Tenold Shows Off His (Major) Shutter Skills
Midwestern photog Corey Tenold just created one of the most visually stunning photo shoots we've ever seen. And, he did it all for himself. The wildly creative (and inspired!) Tenold shot his most recent project for his portfolio, but we're wishing it was hanging on our living room walls. The shoot features truly stunning floral patterns, colors, and, of course, on-the-edge style that captivates us. And no, this isn't the most identical set of twins you've ever seen; Corey actually used one model and (we assume by magic) made her look like two. If you're wondering where all of the stellar clothing comes from, the majority of it is Zara, H&M, and Urban Outfitters. The floral Doc Martens worn in the shoot were a huge source of inspiration for Corey, and we spy a pair of Jeffery Campbells in there, too. Click through and stare. We did.
Smash! Bang! Kapow! It’s The Great Gatsby Trailer…
And away we go! Seems Director/ rapacious human/ Four Loko can Baz Luhrmann is doing exactly what he did to William Shakespeare to F. Scott Fitzgerald. Right away, the rich detail, glam, and glitz of the trailer for his The Great Gatsby punches you square in the jaw with an opera-gloved hand. Scored to a Kanye song and featuring the spires of Manhattan rising in CGI glory, the beautiful Carey Mulligan, and Leo DiCaprio's impressive forehead, it looks at least twice as explosive, awesome, and wonderfully over-the-top as anything Luhrmann’s done since Romeo + Juliet. Of course, anyone who’s actually read The Great Gatsby (i.e. 90% of America) might note that the novel isn’t itself explosive or wonderfully over-the-top. It’s a restrained, sad, slow burn — a heartbreaker under glass. This trailer is all silk dresses and digital fireworks. Whatever — faithful in spirit or not, we’re still watching the hell out this blinged-out, manic interpretation of the great American novel come Christmas.
