Wednesday Events: The Velvet Underground, Indie Rock Karaoke, Boris, Stellastarr*, and Vampire Weekend
Andy Warhol documents The Velvet Underground before they were a cult favorite—i.e. when they were just his personal little rock band rehearsing for gigs at The Factory. Velvet Underground at MoMa.New York Magazine presents Indie Rock Karaoke with Ted Leo & The Pharmacists. They'll be belting out Bon Jovi and The Beatles, followed by a set of their own tunes. Hope those voice lessons have paid off, cause last time around Paul Rudd delivered quite a show. Indie Rock Karaoke at Studio B. Indie Rock Karaoke at Studio B.
Never judge a band by its… name. Boris is a Japanese Punk/Metal band that's got their guitar riffs down cold. Not a Russian polka band in the least. Boris at Music Hall of Williamsburg.
Whether you rocked out to Stellastarr* in highschool, or came around to them later in life, these hipster favorites are still at it, making catchy emo tunes that are bound to be stuck in your head for days. Stellastarr* at Pianos.
Get your fill of poppy predictability (in a good way!) with Vampire Weekend whose sweet tunes will have you head-bopping all the way home. Vampire Weekend at Terminal 5.
For you folks who take the Holidays really seriously, get tips on fine dining in style when Christine Muhlke of The New York Times Style Magazine hosts a convo about food and design. Panelists include Blue Hill chef Dan Barber, Mucca Design's Matteo Bologna, and acclaimed pastry chef Will Goldfarb. The Dinner Party at Cooper Union.
