Second-Hand Scene: Reporting from The Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show

Ninety top vintage clothing dealers from 16 states under one roof is like catnip for those still searching for the perfect pair of boots before Winter closes in. Correspondingly, The Manhattan Vintage Clothing and Antique Textile Show that was held on Friday and Saturday at The Metropolitan Pavillion—which housed collections from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries—was filled with cool kitties. Wandering amongst pairs of mustard leather 1940's western work boots and an awesome 1970's tooled leather visor with mushroom motives were shoppers Agyness Deyn and Stroke/boo Albert Hammond Jr., and designers Erin Fetherston and Jill Stuart . Stylist Hadley Findlay Levin wore nude lipstick as she browsed through the colorful Bakelite bangles. Kate Blake from Lower East Side's Narnia Vintage said customer focus was mainly on Fall items and designer research pieces. Big hits of the day included a Betsey Johnson floral romper, a short sleeve Sonia Rykiel sweater, YSL gold lame strappy stilettos, black leather knee hi studded boots, Ferragamo suede moss-green oxfords and lace up granny boots. With Wall Street on a continuing downward spiral it can be hard to justify paying the hefty $20 entrance fee. But by being able to hit fav vintage stores like No.6, Amarcord, Narnia, Poppet, and The Family Jewels in one fell swoop it must somehow help to save the environment or the economy, or the election, or something…right? Back us up here.
