This NYC Foundry wedding is one of my favorites, in large part because I love the couple's how-we-met story. Marios and Steve couldn't be a more perfect match. It was a pleasure to capture their special day on camera and wonderful, too, getting to know them along the way. Here's what they had to say about their big day — and, maybe more important, what led up to it:
"We met eight and a half years ago on April Fools' Day at the Phoenix bar in the East Village," said Marios. "We later realized we had both been going there very regularly for more than two years, but somehow never saw each other. One night, I was playing pool, and Steven and his friends were watching. Eventually, I introduced myself…
"Our first date was a few days later, and it wasn’t going very well at first. We were a little bored until we started talking about books and realized that we both loved reading science fiction, especially two books by Vernon Vinge we had both read and loved. That was the turning point. We are forever grateful to Vernon Vinge for saving that first date!
"After several years together, after having talked about marriage for a while, we were psyched when it became legal in New York...One day, we were sitting on the couch, each with our laptops, when Steve turned to me and said, 'Will you marry me?'
"I said 'Yes.' It seemed appropriate for two techie sci-fi lovers like us."
