What is your diet and workout regimen?
"I think there is always an ideal regimen and an actual. It could always be better, cleaner, harder working — but that isn't always realistic. First of all, I am not in the camp of restriction. Meaning, I want to feel like I can eat what I want and not feed into unhealthy starving patterns. That being said, when I am deep in performance mode my diet is intense. I eat to make my body work and feel the best it can. So that means lots of greens, fish, walnuts, yogurt, dried mango, raw honey, steak, quinoa... Stuff like that. Sometimes I dabble in Ayurvedic cooking because it is always delicious and feels good. Alcohol and sugar slow down my body and make me feel ungrounded so I have very little when I am rehearsing and performing a lot. Lots of water and herbal tea. One cup of coffee a day unless life gets really hectic (and it likes to do that).
I am a Pilates instructor so I do a little bit of Pilates every day either at home or on the equipment before I teach clients. It often centers around the choreography I'm working on, trying to balance out and strengthen my body. I also like to take a couple yoga classes a week in the city or in my living room to stay grounded and stretched and mentally quiet. I ride my bike into the city (from Williamsburg) as many times a week as I can depending on the weather. I've started trying to swim a couple times a week (it only really happens once a week). I take a weekly private Pilates/Gyrotonics session with my brilliant teacher, Clarice. And in a perfect world, take two to three ballet classes a week. At rehearsal we warm up for 45 minutes to an hour and I usually give myself a mixture of Cunningham, ballet, and yoga to warm up. When on tour, I go to the gym in the hotel and either ride the bike or do the elliptical for 20-30 minutes to warm up before going to the theater. At the theater I warm up for one and a half hours but prefer three. HA! This all sounds crazy but it takes TIME to take care of your body!!!"
