Connie Wang, global editor: Hokkaido, Japan

"When they say Japan has everything they really mean it. On the northern island of Hokkaido, you can go on a skiing session in the mountains, explore the hot springs in their many national parks, and get blitzed at a bar on Sapporo (in Sapporo, their capital city) all in the same day. Oh, also gorge on some of the best seafood in the world.

I'd want to stay at Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei — Located on Lake Shikotsu, this hotel's biggest draw (at least for me) is the open air baths that overlook the National Park and its hot springs that you can take a dip in after you're bored with the bath."

Connie's Packing List:

"Since I don't really have to worry about tan lines on this winter getaway, I'm going to opt for a super-comfy one-piece that I can forget about while bubbling away in a hot spring."
Zimmermann Devoted Drape One-Piece Swimsuit, $232.97, available at Zimmermann.

"A good hiking boot is going to be your best friend while trekking through all that nature, and these ones are good-looking enough to get worn when I'm just headed out to brunch in NY."
Timberland Brattle Hiking Boot, $69.99, available at Urban Outfitters.
