Awesome Foodie Event: The Eat Real Festival Hits Oakland

Looking for something cheap and fun to do this weekend? Head over to Jack London Square for a celebration of all things yummy and local at Oakland's Eat Real Festival. At this unique weekend foodie fest, which costs nada to attend, guests can grub on deliciously fresh street food (Think tacos, BBQ, curry, falafel, ice cream, and everything else!), and sip locally made wines and handcrafted beers. The best part: Nothing is more than $5 a pop. Plus, aside from the delectable nosh, there will be loads of farm-to-table-themed activities, including demonstrations on how to grow a vegetable patch, how to raise chickens in your backyard, and workshops on perfecting your skills with cheese, sauerkraut, homemade bitters, butters, and the like. Folks more confident and kitchen-savvy can even enter competitions anointing the best jam-makers, picklers, and DIY beer brewers in town. And, since this event spans a solid three days, there's really no excuse to miss it.
When: Friday, September 23, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, September 24, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday, September 25, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Eat Real Festival, 466 Water Street (between Broadway and Washington streets); 510-250-7811.
Price: Free entry
