Secret-Ingredient Onion Dip
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup low fat sour cream
1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. onion powder
½ tsp. white vinegar
½ cup chives, diced
Salt to taste
Over a medium-low heat, sauté onion in the olive oil until golden brown and fragrant. While that's cooking, assemble the rest.
Pour liquid off the top of your yogurt – what remains is the “secret” ingredient that makes your dip a far less guilty pleasure than the traditional onion dip. If you have a fine sieve, then strain even more liquid off. (If not, don’t stress. You can blot excess liquid off with a paper towel before serving.) Mix yogurt, sour cream, onion powder and vinegar together until well combined.
Once caramelized, let your onions cool for a few minutes, then mix them into the dip base, finishing with the chives and salt. Cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to serve.
