Heather Lipner is the founder of Uncovet, a shopping service that offers unique design-centric fashion and home items that over time become tailored to a user’s personal tastes.
To unearth the latest must-haves, she and her engineering team digest over 30 million feeds every day, scouring Pinterest, blogs, Svpply, and other social-media sites to uncover the latest trending objects of desire. The site then employs learning algorithms similar to the recommendation engines of Netflix, Pandora, and Amazon, and sends users email updates showcasing products that they may covet.
"It was really important for me to make each person's desk space more livable and productive, yet still expressing their individuality," explains Lipner. "I asked each lady five or six questions to understand their biggest quarrels with their space. Then, with the aid of great product, we set up a design solution to solve each of their problems."
