How do you stay organized?
"I have a hard time focusing when my surroundings are too disorganized. This is especially true in a smaller space, like my office. So, I spend a little time at the end of every day tidying up and filing so that I can dive into working the next morning. I don’t always like organizing, but I feel better when I do, so I am pretty disciplined about it."
What do you think are the most important elements when building a balanced workspace?
"Achieving a balance of functionality, simplicity, and personalization are most important for me. For example, I need enough space so that I don’t feel like the objects I’m using to decorate my space are taking up the room I need for paperwork or my bowl of noodles at lunch. Yes, I do eat at my desk! And, of course, everything needs a home — papers, invoices, tax forms — all need a place to go so they don’t build up. At the same time, I like my work spaces to have things in them that inspire me and reflect my aesthetic. My studio is like that, too. After years of working in a grey cubicle before I was self-employed, it feels important to me that my desk is inviting, clean, and happy."
