After living overseas for years, this family returned to Melbourne, Australia to find that the housing market was too steep for them to be able to buy anything.

They lucked out when the owner of a large piece of property agreed to divide her backyard, giving them a piece or property they could afford, and helping her with her retirement at the same time. The owners and designers of Architected purchased the space and began to build. The result, which they've called the Northcote Laneway House, is an environmentally-friendly, color-filled two-story house built around a garden.
