If there were a definitive list of things every woman should have in her closet, staples like black ankle boots, the perfect white tee, and a timeless LBD would no doubt be at the top. But a piece that's recently had a major comeback has also proven its wear-forever potential: the denim jacket. Though the iconic '90s outerwear is having a moment, it's a style we never wanted to let go of in the first place (and we don't plan on doing so anytime soon). For one, you can break it out no matter the season; it's versatile and travels well since it isn't prone to wrinkling; and the wear and tear only makes it look cooler the longer you sport it. Yeah, you'd be hard-pressed to find another piece that actually gets better with age.

To put the versatile blue-jean jacket to the test, we mapped out five different ways you can spin it using one of our favorite iterations: the Authentic Trucker Jacket from Levi'sĀ®. Whether you fancy yourself a minimalist or a sophisticated skater, the approaches to this wear-with-all topper are virtually endless. Find your cheat sheet to fall's cool jean-jacket combos ahead ā€” once you try 'em out, we bet you won't be able to find ways not to wear it.

    The Rugged Urbanite
Plaid speaks to you in ways that no other pattern can. Try it in a T-shirt dress with a leather belt for a more flattering fit. Keep it from erring too cowgirl with chic navy booties, and throw on a jean jacket to bring out the blues in your top while adding another proportion and texture to the look.

    The Skate Prep
Your polished athleisure look mixes skate and prep wear to perfection. Keep your tennis polo from feeling too collegiate with a tough denim jacket and worn-in mini, and let windowpane socks peek out of your lace-up sneaks to tie it all together.

    The Made-Up Minimalist
You may fear patterns or anything too loud, but you appreciate a killer outfit. In sum, dressy casual is the name of your game. A sleeveless peplum top with camel pants is a perfect foundation for a minimal yet elevated ensemble, while a delicate bar necklace and two-tone heels add fresh elements to keep the look from falling flat.

    The Art-School Dropout
Thanks to all of those art-history courses, your outfits are your creative canvas. So it's no surprise that you're attracted to the occasional abstract print or brushstroke effect. Pair a painterly patterned skirt with a textured knit turtleneck and metallic tassel loafers. Then edge up the feminine hues with a jean topper and cozy beanie.

    The Low-Key '70s Fan
You're all about a subtle nod to fashion's favorite decade. Keep your eclectic aesthetic on track by mixing a striped tie-neck blouse with a flower-power bag and suede round-toe pumps in retro shades. Top it off with a lived-in denim jacket to take the dressier look into the weekend.
