Crowd Sourcing: It Turns Out You Can Hire Your Own Fan Club!

Can you think of anything more heartbreaking than hitting up your fave shopping destination, finding a sick deal, then realizing that you have no one to share in your boutique bliss? Or, what about when you've landed after a long flight of lame flicks and awful airplane food and come home to not a single familiar soul in sight? There may not be an app for ending loneliness, but there is an L.A.-based company with the single purpose of making you feel a little more loved (hugs are optional).
Adam Swart created Crowds on Demand after he noticed a hole in the market that needed to be filled by large groups of people. The trained actors in L.A., S.F., Washington D.C., and Las Vegas will pamper you in between flights, cheer on frequent flyers at the terminal, and even fill seats at political rallies. While it's incredibly artificial, you can't deny that these services are appropriate here in Tinseltown — think about how many A-list hopefuls populate our fine city. By shelling out about $800, anyone can feel like a star with a few paps and reporters in tow as you touch down at LAX. Or, if perhaps that service is a bit too flashy for you, why not try the "It's all about ME" package where random folks will bring words of encouragement to your office? Take that, HR!

We're entirely fascinated by the project (especially the fact that major politicians have sought out Swart's services, although he's obvi mum on whom!). We're also curious: Would you ever go so far to enlist a gang to help wash away lonely days? (LAist)
