There was a time when music fests were all about music — the bands, the sound, the main stage. But, you can't round up a few thousand people in a wide-open space and not have it become a mecca for people-watching. Which is why, when we were at Bonnaroo, we couldn't help but spot four next-level hairstyles that made us totally forget we were there for the...the...music. We were there for the music.

Whether it's wild waves or mix-and-match braids, these styles prove music festivals are the perfect grounds for hair stalking. And, because we wouldn't just show you the best 'dos without tips on DIYing them, we're breaking down each one with styling secrets and a few Garnier Fructis essentials. Besides, there are more than enough festivals left in the summer for the spotter to become the spottee.

    Wild & Free
Yeah, we'd be pretty happy, too, if we had textured waves that were this gorgeous. Ahead, we show you how to get the look even if you weren't born with 'em.

If you've already got the waves and want some extra texture, just spritz a dry shampoo or finishing spray from the roots to the ends and scrunch throughout your hair. The trick to applying product evenly is to mist your hair in sections, so you're not just spraying the topmost layer.

For those with straight hair, you'll need to bust out the curling wand for this one. After using a heat protectant spray, curl small sections of hair using a 1-inch wand; wrap in alternating directions for a more natural look. Tug the ends of your curls downward as they cool to keep them slightly messy and undone. Then, break up the curls with your fingers, and finish with extra dry shampoo for texture.

    Double Down
When there's no shade in sight, it's gonna get hot and sticky real fast. Sweeping your hair off your neck, like this gal did with two frizz-free buns and a colorful headband, is a smart move to stay cool. Learn how to get the look yourself ahead.

Start by splitting your hair down the middle into two sections at the back of your head. Twist one section into a rope-like braid, and then loop it into a bun on one side. Secure with a thin elastic instead of bobby pins — they'll just slip out when you're swinging your head along to the music. Repeat on the other side, and finish with an all-over blast of anti-frizz hairspray to smooth out your strands.

Top off your look with a colorful bandana or headband, and you're good to go.

    Pumped Up
The easiest way to make your hairstyle stand out? Accessorize it. Not only does this beaded headpiece provide a touch of bling, but it also puts the spotlight on a '70s-inspired voluminous crown.
