Which e-commerce site shows up most in your Internet history?
"This is terribly boring but it's probably Amazon. I've gotten so lazy that the prospect of having everything delivered for free with a Prime Account means that I'm barely buying groceries IRL."

What's the best store to find a truly awesome housewarming gift?
"I think housewarming gifts that require prominent display in a new space can be dicey and presumptuous. Also, my friends are all so grown-up at this point that kitchen supplies can be awkward to incorporate. Same with coffee table books. I despise clutter so I'd be crestfallen if someone brought crap into my house no matter how well-intended. The only exception being if they're artists and they're gifting me art — that rules. Typically, I go with a good measure of nice booze. Astor Wines has a great selection of tipple. If they don't drink, they get olive oil from Frankies."

What's your favorite big department store? What's your hidden-secret shopping spot?
"I am not a fan of giant department stores. They give me tremendous anxiety. My secret shopping spots are not secrets. I meticulously pick over every Housing Works in this town."

Where you do shop for the most bang for your buck?
"I love Japanese book stores for the stationary, like Kinokuniya. They have pens as slender as Capri 100 cigarettes in a whole mess of colors. I love them."

Which is the best city in the world to shop?
"Hong Kong is the best place to shop for all manner of specific crap. Seoul, Korea, is also very good at being an enjoyable place to buy things. I love a good night market or nocturnal mall situation. London's great too, but I need there to be less expensive things there, because that exchange rate will kill you and I can never be bothered to get a VAT refund."

If you had to guess, which store is the majority of your closet from?
"Most of the things in my closet are from Rick Owens. That is a terrible lie that I will wish it true some day because I recently purchased my very first big-deal bit of outerwear from the store on Hudson and it was a transcendent experience. To be honest, most of the things from my closet are from all over. I donate things constantly and acquire constantly. It's a mix of vintage, Zara, and a smattering of investment pieces. I know it's no secret but Zara has been killing the last two or three seasons. I'm waiting for them to get all J.Crew about it and get exponentially more expensive with zero warning."

Zara Twist Knit Frilled Jumper, $79.90, available at Zara; Rick Owens Shearling leather biker jacket, $3720, available at Net-A-Porter; Malin+Goetz Cilantro Conditioner, $45, available at Amazon; Buffalo Trace Bourbon, $27.99, available at Astor Wines.
