Cheese and bread. Fried chicken and biscuits. Spaghetti and meatballs. The quintessential comfort-food combos never fail to warm our spirits when the temperatures drop, the days darken, and the snow sets in. For some, winter marks a time to slow down, hibernate, and forget about those last five or 10 pounds before January resolutions take hold.
So, we turn to the usual suspects when it comes to food — dishes that remind us of our fuzzy fleece blankets or make us feel cozy like a glowing chimney fire. While Southern and Italian dishes might dominate our notions of cold-weather indulgence, Asian favorites have found just as strong a following. We’ve included some of those staples, from ramen to dumplings, along with new and creative renditions of classic craves you might just order this snow-weather season.
