5 Drugstore Concealers Celeb Makeup Artists Actually Use

Dark and puffy undereye circles is a problem faced by just about everyone. Yes, even the freaks among us (the ones who somehow look rested after a night partying or all out cry fest) can't completely avoid the wrath of skipping sleep. What's more, stress, poor diet, and allergies can all show up on your face, too. And breakouts? No one is exempt, which is why concealer is a makeup staple for most of us.
As you well know, not all cover-ups are created equal — and the only thing worse than cakey, too sheer, or plain ol' unpredictable concealer is the search to find a formula that's amazing. (It doesn't help that the industry benchmarks are priced as high as $70 a pop.)

Fret not, because we tapped celebrity makeup artist Andre Sarmiento to test over 100 bargain formulas in our R29 offices to find the best of the best. A few packs of makeup removing wipes and a solid must-have list later (he was looking for wearable luminosity, universal tones, a practical applicator, and superior blendability), he found the top five drugstore concealers on the market today.
Watch Sarmiento narrow down the selection, and shop his favorites, ahead.

Best For: Brightening The Undereye

This pick is great for those who want to brighten their undereyes in one fell swoop. "It's lasting and glides on nicely — plus, it sets well so it won't fade or crease on you," Sarmiento says. We'd even liken this bargain product to YSL Touche Eclat (which is more than five times the price).

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, $7.99, available at Target.

Best For: Full Coverage Anywhere On The Face

The name, #Instaready, may seem a little gimicky, but boy did it perform. "This has a nice, moisturizing texture, but feels like it has grip on your skin," says Sarmiento. Bonus? This one comes with a mini blending sponge with a beveled tip for precise application.

Physicians Formula #InstaReady Full Coverage Concealer, $10.99, available at Ulta Beauty.

Best For: Concealing While Maintaining A Dewy Glow

Into a matte finish? Sorry, but this concealer probably won't be your thing, Sarmiento warns, but if you love dewy or radiant skin, then this is your slide. "It gives great coverage, and has amazing staying power, while still remaining glowy," he says. Bonus points: Sarmiento was very impressed by the range of shades.

L'Oréal Infallible Pro Glow Concealer, $8.99, available at Target.

Best For: Dry Skin

"This is great if you have dryness or crepiness around your eyes," Sarmiento says. "Because it offers a lot of moisture." We're often wary of bullet concealers, as they can come out dry or cakey, but this one proves both creamy and blendable.

Almay Age Essentials Concealer, $6.79, available at Target.

Best For: Medium Coverage All Over The Face

The most innovative of the bunch? This Iman concealer. This powder to cream formula comes in a clever flip-top container so you can sprinkle the powder onto your skin — and watch it magically turn to cream as you blend. Start with clean hands, then sprinkle onto the pad of your ring finger and lightly buff over skin.

IMAN CC Correct & Cover Powder to Créme Concealer, $8.39, available at Target.
