This Is Our Jam: Carmen Villain, “Lifeissin”

carmen-villain
With her face largely obscured in press photos, you probably wouldn't guess that Carmen Villain used to be a model, and listening to "Lifeissin" certainly doesn't give off that impression either. The former Vogue cover star, who used to go by the name of Carmen Hillestad, has switched paths from beautiful face to beautiful voice with her debut LP, Sleeper.
The first single is a shakily emotional track countered by buzzing guitar squalls and stadium-sized drums. "Reach out for the sky," she sings combining the desperate with the uplifting. The track paints its own picture, and Carmen Villain reinvents herself — no camera crew required.
