Carey Mulligan Thinks Red Carpets Can Be Excessive, Co-Chairs The Met Ball

Even though Fashion Week is super exciting (and super tiring), and obvs we planned today around the Golden Globes, perhaps there's no night in fashion we love more than The Met Ball. Between stars, models, and the rest of the beautiful people who we love to gawk at, and the show-stoppiing, risk-taking dresses that our wildest dreams wear when they're dancing around in our heads, there's simply nothing more we could ask for in an evening. This year, we're even more excited than usual, because one of our favorite stunners, Carey Mulligan, is co-charing the event along with Anna Wintour, Miuccia Prada, and Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com. And, while Mulligan is certainly the new kid here, we're super happy that she's getting the recognition she deserves as a style icon and, well, a star.

Plus, how humble and down-to-earth is she? At the Recent New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend, Mulligan said that she sometimes considers acting an "over-valued profession," admitting that it's not "rocket science or brain surgery," and that a lot of the excess you see in the industry comes from when red carpet events and award shows take over. We can't wait to see if and how this sentiment translates in her participation in The Met Ball, but we hope it doesn't mean she shows up in something less than fabulous. Giving her track record, though, we bet she'll do just fine.
