We don't see how you can call yourself a fashion fanatic, street-style enthusiast, or even a casual film lover until you've seen this ah-mazing documentary about the eccentric, supremely talented, and entirely fascinating photographer who's been supplying the New York Times with sidewalk trend snaps since the Sartorialist was in high school. Even for those who aren't interested in fashion, per se, the doc offers a deep, loving portrait of man dedicated to a singular way of life with a single focus – a truly inspirational watch to start off your new year.

But the point is this: if you haven't seen this essential film, get yourself over to the San Francisco Film Society Cinema on January 1 or 2. And if you have already seen it, well, you know how much a second peek on the big screen is worth. Go for it.
