Laughing Lotus
Looking for a studio with absolutely zero pretentiousness? Yeah, that’d be Laughing Lotus in the Mission. With its warm staff, gorgeous, hand-painted Hindu-inspired murals, and not to mention tasty snacks (free cookies and tea), you’ll feel as if you’ve moseyed into a safe zone for soulful practices. And you have! The classes begin with quite a few chants to get the breath warmed up and then move into a vigorous flow. We popped into the mid-day donation class, which is a course geared toward all levels and the dough is for a good cause. But we also hear that the midnight classes are a standout option, as well, and feature live music every Friday from 10 p.m. to midnight while you get your downward dog on.
Price: Drop-in for $13 to $16, new student one-month pass for $30, New Year special one-month pass for $49, five-class pack for $75, 10-class pack for $99.
Laughing Lotus, 3271 16th Street (between Guerrero and Dolores streets); 415-355-1600.

The Mindful Body
Need a dose of pre-natal yoga to sooth your bump-toting pains? Look no further than the famed, preggo-friendly class taught by Kari Marble (or those by her equally qualified colleagues) at this Laurel Heights spot. And, even if you're not carrying a human around inside of you, this low-key studio has over a dozen other types of yoga, from beginner-centric gentle Hatha to private or semi-private classes to take your practice to the next level.
Price: Drop-in for $17, new student three-class pass for $30, unlimited month pass for $180.
The Mindful Body, 2876 California Street (at Broderick Street); 415-931-2639.
