The Highest Ranked Work Pants Are Basically Leggings

We’ve had our doubts about whether loungewear could be appropriate for the office, but we may have just been given the green light: There is such thing as work-appropriate leggings. In their latest roundup, the retail hunters at Rank & Style confirm that the best work pant under $100 is J.Crew’s fan-favorite Pixie Pant. And, while we’re elated that we have even more reason to justify a comfortable staple, we have to admit we aren’t totally surprised.   The Pixie Pant’s stretch provides the coziness of a legging, while details like its thick waistband and back zipper keep the piece looking polished — and ensure that it won’t ride down (something HR will certainly appreciate, too). Additionally, the fabric is just the right weight: not flimsy like the pair of leggings you wear on Sundays, but not stiff, either. And, it tapers at the ankles, providing the structure of a typical work pant — to the naked eye, at least. Perhaps the best part about this style is that J.Crew really covered all its bases here. The Pixie Pant is also available with a leather front — an edgier option — and in maternity sizing. Just keep in mind that those price tags are bigger than the regular Pixie version, which rings in at a wallet-friendly $98. Pair your office-ready legging pant with a blazer for your 9-to-5 and a leather jacket for all the other hours. Or, if you prefer more coverage, simply practice the frock-over-pants trick and style under a sweaterdress. Fair warning, though: Just because your new math-approved work pants are as cozy as your Sunday loungewear, that doesn't mean you get to watch Netflix at the office.
