If someone said they want to do what you're doing, what advice would you give them?
Angela: "I think internships are so crucial. Everything I've learned was obtained not by sitting in a class and reading about it, but by really being hands-on in the field from any early age. I would say interning, along with persistence, and a stellar work ethic will never steer you wrong."

Katie: "Also, start religiously reading the magazines and websites that you want to work for. Cold email every Managing Editor, Executive Editor, and HR person at those places and inquire about open positions or the possibility of an informational interview. Try to network with folks a little bit older than you. Those are the people who can help you in the long run (and hire you!) and they're not going after the same thing you are. Look for the story idea in everything you do...from a fight you're having with your boyfriend to a decor trend you see at local restaurants. The best article ideas are often things you naturally want to talk about with your friends."

Where can we find you in S.F. when you're off the job?
Katie: "Trying new restaurants, walking around our beautiful hilly streets (I call it 'urban hiking') and Instagramming the gorgeous views, playing tennis or running with my husband, and reading articles for my new Article Club (books are too long for me)."

Angela: "Unearthing new shops, geeking out on Pinterest, reading my expanding stack of fave mags (Lula, V, Nylon), doing a little self-pampering, fawning over my pup, shopping in Hayes, and eating cheeseburgers like it’s my job."
