If you weren't doing what you're doing today, what else would you do?

"Living off the land somewhere or running a local public-access kids' TV program? Working for the ACLU again or doing more work with prisoners? In Berlin, living out my dream of being the Jim Henson of abstract 21-century conceptual sculpture? Hard to say, but any of those sound perfectly fine."

Where can we find you in S.F. when you're off the job?
"The Mission. I love my neighborhood. I'm pretty involved in the local independent-art scene and I used to help run an art space called The Lab. I have a lot of friends who make art, run spaces, and play shows, so I try to go out to support — both here in S.F. and over at Oakland Art Murmur. I'll go out dancing, usually at the Knockout or Public Works, go running up in Noe or Bernal, or go to yoga. I also can be found holing up at home, drinking tea, reading books, and fussing over my plants."

Is your job as "dreamy" as it appears on the outside?
"Well, all jobs have their irksome and dry bits — that's what makes them jobs, right? But I have met some of my longtime idols and have great stories to tell! Really, I am thankful all the time for the miracle that is art, and all the things that it is, can be, say, do, and communicate. But my absolute favorite thing about artwork has always been sharing it. My job in a nutshell is to tell a whole bunch of people what's cool about a work of art or artist. So, I guess that makes it pretty freaking dreamy."
