It's Hot, It's Red, It's The Lip Color You Need, Now

Red lipstick is the first thing I stole out of my mom's makeup bag to make me feel like a woman (before puberty set in). To this day, nothing makes me feel more confident than swiping on a fiery siren red. Just like how you can pick out Anna Wintour by her straight-cut bob or Cara Delevingne by her brows, fall's bold vampy hues have become my calling card.
And, while my love for bold hues hasn't changed, I've picked up a tip or two along the way to make my red Revlon lipstick as flattering as possible. Since we're all friends here, I'm sharing my secrets to sporting a killer lip every time you wear it, ahead.

Step 1: Lately I'm leaving my liquid eyeliner in my makeup bag and reaching for soft, smudgy shadows for my eye makeup. With a flat brush, pat on a taupe shade from your lashline to your brow.

Step 2: Take a darker brown shadow and gently dust it into the crease of your eye and your lower lashline to create some dimension to your look. You don’t have to go dark since the eyes come secondary to your bold lip.

Step 3: Apply mascara — the most crucial step to any makeup look. I don’t even go to the gym without a swipe! Too Faced Pretty Rebel Beauty Eye Shadow Palette, $46, available at Too Faced; Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $23, available at Too Faced.

Step 4: Okay, ready for my secret to rocking a killer lip? You apply both lipstick and a lip gloss in the exact same shade. When used together, you create dimension and amp up the color, making it last that much longer. I'm using Revlon's Super Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Fire & Ice. It's jam-packed with hydrating ingredients so that it doesn’t dry out my lips like some of my other more-matte lipsticks. Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lipstick in Fire & Ice , $6.39, available at Revlon.

Step 5: Choose your lip gloss from the same line as your lipstick so that the colors are similar, if not the same. I picked Revlon's Super Lustrous™ Lip Gloss in Firecracker. This is a little model trick to make your lips look more full. Apply the gloss to the center of both your top and bottom lips, concentrating on your cupid's bow. Revlon Super Lustrous™ Lip Gloss in Firecracker, $6.39, available at Revlon.

There you have it. The best part about this one-two punch is that, now, all it takes to retouch your lips is a swipe of lip gloss.
