3 Floral Fragrances That Even A Musk Fan Would Love

Despite what my penchant for distressed jeans and studded accessories would have you believe, there’s a part of me that is shamelessly girly. For proof, look past my mostly-black wardrobe and into my fragrance stash, and you’ll see that I’m all about the florals.

Part of the attraction is that I love to play with contrasts. I can’t resist pairing my motorcycle boots with a delicate lily-of-the-valley-laced perfume, just to keep things interesting. The other reason for my fondness of floral scents is simple: the new ones smell irresistible. These are the three that I’m keeping in heavy rotation this summer.

You know how mint leaves balance out the sweetness of a mojito? The same concept applies to this fragrance. It has Moroccan mint, which adds something wonderfully unexpected to the flowery mix of neroli, orange blossom, and iris. I’m filing it under “C” for can’t-stop-sniffing.

Web2Lanvin ME Eau de Parfum I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to fruity florals, which I think can be a bit cheesy. But ME is as sophisticated and alluring as you would expect from Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz. Clearly the man and his perfumers were born with a gift for knowing exactly what makes women feel confident. In this case, it’s a sweet-smelling combo of tuberose, rose absolue, blueberry, and licorice. Fair warning: You may strut when you wear this.

I don’t know if rose-based perfumes will ever be able to shed their reputation for being old-fashioned, but I’m betting (and hoping!) that this scent will certainly help the cause. As the name implies, it’s super-rosy, but not in a way that conjures up images of grandma. The notes of violet, peony, musk, and sandalwood keep it from being overpowering. Dare I say it’s sexy? And, since it’s the closest I'll get to the City of Lights this season, I’m sold.

Saint Laurent Paris Premières Roses, $95, available at Neiman Marcus.
