The '80s Are Alive And Well With Fall's Punk Revival

This fall, whether it was layers of chains at the Versace show, studs at Diesel Black Gold, or two-toned mullets at Jean Paul Gaultier, several designers skipped soft silhouettes and ladylike chignons and channeled the hardcore punk looks of Sid Vicious and the Ramones. So, dust off the Dr. Martens, break out the mousse, and check to see which makeup and hair products you should rock out with this season, ahead.

Dark and mysterious was the name of the game at Anthony Vaccarello. Leather with grommets, alabaster skin, and deep lips gave models a sultry, smoky look à la our favorite “I Love Rock 'n' Roll” singer.

Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color in Bruised Plum, $49, available at Neiman Marcus; Merle Norman Eyecolor Trio in Smoke & Mirrors, $20, available at Merle Norman; Dior Airflash Matte Touch, $49, available at Sephora.

Jean Paul Gaultier shows you can go punk without layers of dark shadow and eyeliner. All you need is a vintage Billy Ray Cyrus mullet (yeah, I just said that), bold brows, and pale pinks on your lips, lids, and cheeks.

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Steady Going, $15, available at MAC; Chanel Le Blush Créme De Chanel in Inspiration, $38, available at Chanel; Clinique All About Shadow in Bubble Bath, $15, available at Clinique; NARS Brow Perfector in Suriname, $22, available at NARS.

One of my favorite childhood cartoons is trending for fall: Jem and the Holograms. To look truly outrageous like the models at Jeremy Scott, paint your pout with Maybelline’s pink lip balm, draw the outline of a winged tip with Aerin’s Kajal liner, then paint a reverse winged tip above it using a creamy neon shadow. And if you already roll out of bed with out-of-control cowlicks, embrace and emphasize them with Göt2b's spiking glue.
